OnePlus has confirmed another major detail regarding the specifications of its second flagship smartphone.
According to a tweet by the Chinese handset maker, the upcoming 2 device will sport a USB Type-C port.
"The #OnePlus2 will be the first flagship to use Type C USB," OnePlus tweeted. "We want to lead the way in power connectivity."
Like what can be seen in the current technological trend, it seems OnePlus has joined other major firms in including the USB Type-C port for its upcoming device. The move by the company, on the other hand, does not come as a surprise since this type of charging port offers certain advantages, according to Gizmodo.
For one, Type-C cables are capable of delivering up to 100 watts of power to devices. At this rate, users will be able to fully charge their devices within a short period of time.
Also, like HDMI and Display Ports, UBS Type-C ports can support video playing from smartphones to desktop computers and vice versa.
The announcement regarding the 2's charging port marks the second feature that users can expect to see in the upcoming flagship handset.
Last week, OnePlus unveiled through its forum page that the 2 model will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 chipset. Although this processor model has been rumored to cause overheating issues in devices, OnePlus clarified that it will be using the version 2.1 of the chipset for the 2.
The tech firm added that it closely worked with Qualcomm to ensure that the processor will work smoothly with the smartphone's other specs.
"Although there have been reports that the 810 runs warmer than its predecessors, we assure you that we have taken all the necessary precautions and beyond to prevent this from occurring in the 2," OnePlus wrote.
"We worked closely with Qualcomm's engineers to integrate an improved version of the chipset (v2.1) in the OnePlus 2, and fine-tuned both hardware and software," the company added. "The 2 will be 'cooler than ever.'"
The OnePlus 2 does not yet have an official launch date but the company said it will unveil the next flagship device sometime during the third quarter of this year. It is expected to have a retail price of more than $322.
