Paul Rudd, star of the next Marvel film "Ant-Man" cannot help but feel really "cool" every time he puts on the Ant-Man costume. He might be small in size compared to other Marvel heroes such as Thor and the Hulk, but as far as design is concerned, the actor is really pleased with how his costume looks.
"Literally it's like you put it on, you can't help but feel kinda cool. It's a superhero suit, and it's a really good one too," he told Screen Rant in an interview.
It was not easy getting his suit to look perfect, since it involved a lot of fittings and minor tweaks here and there.
"The first time I ever put it on was just in a fitting and there were several fittings and it takes hours, it had been a lot. You stand differently. It just feels like a suit, and because of that, you're working from the outside in. Everything starts to change and yeah, it's pretty cool," he added.
The movie's villain Yellowjacket also known as Darren Cross played by "House of Cards" star Corey Stoll does not have a costume, since his suit does not really exist and is made up entirely of CGI effects.
The only thing the movie's costume department prepared for his Yellowjacket costume was an unpainted sculpt of the helmet, as well as a small-scale model of one of his weaponized arms. The reason is so that the villain could have ease of movement and achieve stunts with more fluidity and less clumsiness.
Stoll does not mind not having an actual suit to put on since he said, "You know, it's a sort of double-edged sword, because I think I'm more comfortable. It takes a lot less time to get in and out of it than Paul's does. And, in the end, the end result will be cooler than any actual physical substance could be."
Rudd disagrees, however, since he believes the costume helps get him into character. "There's something pretty great about having something to wear and feel, and it helps," he said. "There are some scenes where I don't even wear the full helmet but I want to wear the full helmet because it will feel different. And I think it will in some very subtle way, maybe not, but for me I want to feel that protection over my face in some scenes."
