Angelina Jolie and daughter Shiloh carried on with their humanitarian trip over the weekend as the two paid a visit to southeastern Turkey for World Refugee Day.

Jolie, who has been assigned as the special envoy of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), went to the Syrian and Iraqi refugee camp with her 9-year-old daughter.

After travelling to the town of Midyat, in the Turkish province of Mardin, the award-winning actress had also gotten together with Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to discuss the predicament relating to the world’s largest refugee community, as pointed out by a press release from the UNHCR.

"Our world has never been richer or healthier or more advanced. Yet never before have so many people been dispossessed and stripped of their basic human rights," Jolie said according to the release.

She also highlighted the fact that such crisis should not only be referred to as a refugee crisis but should be attributed to global security and governance

The mother-daughter pair had also been joined by UNHCR High Commissioner Antonio Guterres during their visit to the refugee camp.

"This is a central problem. We cannot pick and choose which human rights violations we will and won't tolerate," the ‘Maleficent’ star stated while at the Midyat camp.

Brad Pitt’s wife brought Shiloh first to Lebanon to meet up and spend some time with a 12-year-old Syrian girl she met last year during one of her UNHCR trips.

"Shiloh is very aware that I hold refugee families in high regard and has been asking to come on missions and meet them for many years," Jolie shared.

Jolie and her daughter shared some precious moments with the little girl named Hala, whose parents have passed away and is currently living with her five siblings in a settlement. According to the mother-of-six, Shiloh had been asking many questions immediately after leaving the Hala’s family.

"It is of course hard to explain all of the harsh realities of war and displacement. She said she felt sad, but was happy that she went and is looking forward to the next visit,” the actress further shared.

Earlier this year, Jolie persuaded UN council members to visit the refugee camps themselves.

Jolie began her work with the organization as a Goodwill Ambassador; ten years later, she was then acknowledged for her resolute service and unwavering commitment, and was promoted to becoming a Special Envoy.

Regarding her humanitarian work, the actress has already completed 50 field missions in over 30 countries, such as Sierra Leone, Afghanistan and Pakistan, to name a few.
