Production is prepping up for the latest, currently untitled Jason Bourne movie that will feature the comeback of award-winning actor Matt Damon to the titular role.
Aside from the original CIA agent-turned-assassin, fans can also look forward to the return of Paul Greengrass in the director’s chair, after having worked on ‘The Bourne Supremacy’ and ‘The Bourne Ultimatum.’
Another well-known character from the franchise also makes her comeback as Julia Stiles has signed on to reprise her role as CIA agent Nicky Parsons.
The 34-year-old actress played the character in the first three installments in the franchise, but did not join the cast led by Jeremy Renner in ‘The Bourne Legacy.’
Stiles, who bagged a Golden Globe nomination for her performance as Lumen Ann Pierce on Showtime’s “Dexter,” recently made an appearance for a supporting role in the widely acclaimed drama, ‘Silver Linings Playbook’, by David O. Russel.
The new Bourne film is expected to have an official release in 2016 and was first confirmed during a public event that celebrated Damon and Ben Affleck's TV series ‘Project Greenlight.’
"Well, Damon's going to be doing a Bourne movie next fall when I've just lost any semblance of physical fitness," Affleck said.
After his close pal let it slip that he will star in the brand-new Bourne movie, Damon confirmed such detail by saying, "Yes, next year. It'll be in 2016 when the movie will actually come out. Paul Greengrass is going to do another one and that's all I ever said. I just needed him to say yes."
The BAFTA award-winning director himself opened up about doing his best for the two movies that he helmed for the franchise.
"In the end I felt I had given it my all in two films I'm proud of and didn't want to make another if I didn't belive it could be as good if not better," the director had said during that time.
Greengrass also explained about his choice of passing up the opportunity to make a new one if he feels unprepared for it.
He further stated: "I couldn't come up with an idea, and he business reality of franchises is that when a studio has a Bourne, they're obliged to make one every couple of years. I discovered in my heart I didn't have another one in me."
On the whole, there have been scarce details about the plot for the new Bourne movie, although it was confirmed that the upcoming film will not include a crossover between Damon’s Bourne and Renner’s Aaron Cross.
The fifth Bourne installment is set to make its way to theaters on July 29, 2016.
