After months of speculation, E! confirmed that Melissa Rivers will be signing on as the newest co-host to join ‘Fashion Police’ alongside regular hosts Giuliana Rancic and Brad Goreski.
The TV personality, who will carry on with her role as executive producer on the show, will be joining the hosts, who will both return for the show’s comeback in August.
Every episode of ‘Fashion Police’ is expected to feature two rotating celebrity guests, as claimed by a press release regarding the news.
Jeff Olde, executive VP of programming and development for E!, shared how the younger Rivers has significantly contributed to the series.
"As an executive producer since the beginning, Melissa helped shape Fashion Police into an iconic TV series that couples fashion with comedy," Olde said of Rivers, whose late mother, comedienne Joan Rivers, became a regular host on the show until she passed away last September.
"We are pleased to now also feature Melissa in front of the Fashion Police cameras, as she joins returning panelists Giuliana and Brad," Olde stated. "And with the added flavor of rotating panelists, the show will deliver fresh, different, and unpredictable fashion reviews with each new episode."
The 47-year-old Rivers will be replacing one of the two hosts who exited the series amidst disagreements earlier this year.
Kelly Osbourne and Kathy Griffin said goodbye to ‘Fashion Police’ after co-host Rancic sparked a controversy following the comments she made about Zendaya Coleman’s hair during the Oscars event, saying that Disney star’s dreadlocks seemed to smell like “patchouli oil” or “weed.”
Ozzy Osbourne’s 30-year-old daughter left the show in February while Griffin followed suit and exited the series in March.
The 54-year-old TV comedienne explained that, although she is willing to find humor in various attitudes and beliefs, she only prefers to allow “intelligent humor.”
“Listen, I am no saint...But I do not want to use my comedy to contribute to a culture of unattainable perfectionism and intolerance towards difference,” Griffin stated.
Meanwhile, Rivers has spoken up about taking on a new role for the show and prepping up for the “exciting” opportunity, saying that she is greatly pleased to have the chance to continue working for the network.
Zendaya does have a piece of advice for the style series that is set to return in fall.
“If they are able to enlighten themselves and make it a better Fashion Police, then that’s positive and good. That’s what we want,” the 18-year-old star shared.
