Microsoft announced that after the release of the Windows 10, Xbox 360 users will be able to stream their games designed for the console to their desktop computers.

The company noted that this upcoming feature is scheduled to be released sometime during the holiday season.

Microsoft confirmed the feature to tech news site Engadget while demonstrating the Xbox One's newly improved user interface. Although this service is already available for Microsoft's Preview Program members, the company is aiming to widely release it for all Xbox 360 gamers.

In addition, NDTV noted that this feature will also let users play Xbox 360 games on their Windows 10 PCs using Oculus's virtual reality headset. Aside from the Xbox 360, the company confirmed that the Oculus Rift will also feature support for the Xbox One's controller.

The idea to stream Xbox 360 games to PCs may have been contributed by a gamer through Microsoft's Windows Feature Suggestion, a service setup by the company to gather feedback from the public regarding their expectations for the Windows 10 OS.

In October of last year, a user suggested that Microsoft should enable Xbox 360 or other original Xbox games to be played on a Windows 10 device. The suggestion received over 2,200 votes from other users.

Aside from the streaming feature, Microsoft also announced that the Xbox One will received support for backward compatibility. Through this update, Xbox One owners will be able to play Xbox 360 games on their next-gen consoles.

Microsoft noted only a few Xbox 360 games will be supported by backward compatibility within the first weeks of the feature's launch. However, the list of games that can be played on the Xbox One will eventually be expanded in the future.

Like the Windows 10 game-streaming service, the Xbox One backward compatibility is already available for Preview Program members. The feature is expected to be officially launched this fall.
