Hollywood A-list star Sandra Bullock has always played the protagonist in all of her movies, and never once had she played the villain - that is, until the "Minions" movie came along.

Bullock has lent her voice to sexy villainess Scarlett Overkill in the "Minions" movie, and she will be travelling with Stuart, Kevin, and Bob to Orlando in order to attend VillainCon, the world's biggest gathering of bad guys.

The actress is really pleased with her character in the animated film, and she said that she actually has a lot more in common with Scarlett Overkill than any of the other characters she has portrayed.

"She's more like me than anything else I've been in. She's evil, she's crabby and a little bit bitchy - all the traits that I think make for a good villainess," she told The Telegraph.

This sudden shift of roles is very refreshing to Bullock, and she said: "It's so good to be bad. It's nice. And I got paid for it! Now I understand how the people who play the Joker feel. It's fantastic being the first female super-villain."

It was actually her son Louis Bardo Bullock who inspired her to take the role, the actress revealed, and even though her son does not know what role she played in the movie, she would be happy just to see him enjoying it.

"I wanted to make something my son could see and watch and enjoy, even though he doesn't know what I do and he doesn't know it's me - I can sit in the theatre and watch him," she said. "Nothing makes me happier than hearing that boy laugh, by physical humour and animation so hopefully I'll be able to do that."

There were also a lot of advantages when Bullock worked on "Minions." Whenever she films a movie, the actress had to go places and lose precious time with her son, but it's different for this animated film.

"I wanted to stay home and drive him to school and they (the film-makers) said 'We'll come to where you are'. I was able to drop him to school, go to work and pick him up and now he gets to watch something I did and not know I'm in it. He doesn't know this is what I do," she shared.

Aside from Bullock, other stars who have lent their voices to the film are Jon Hamm, Michael Keaton, Alison Janney, and Steve Coogan. The "Minions" is directed by Pierre Coffin and Kyle Balda, and will be a prequel for "Despicable Me" and "Despicable Me 2."

It has premiered in London, and has been scheduled for release in the United States on July 10, 2015.
