LG confirmed that as of the moment, it has no plans to release the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update for its G3 smartphones.

Although the company did not provide a reason behind its decision, some sources speculated that LG may have decided to skip the latest Lollipop version for the G4's predecessor since it prefers to roll out the Android M instead.

The revelation regarding the OS update's status for the G3 was made by LG Hellas, the company's branch in Greece.

As noted by NDTV, a user asked LG Hellas through its Facebook page regarding the possible roll out of the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update for the G3. In response, the company said that it has no plans of releasing the update for the handset.

The LG G3 handset first debuted in May 28 of last year and came with the Android 4.4.2 KitKat as its original operating system. Through an update, the device's OS was then upgraded to the Android 5.0 Lollipop.

However, based on LG Hellas' response, it seems the smartphone will not get a follow-up update, which could either be the 5.1 or 5.1.1 versions of the Android Lollipop.

Since the company has not yet issued a statement regarding its response, sources noted that the G3 might get the new Android M update instead of newer versions of the Lollipop OS.

Phone Arena pointed out that skipping updates is not a new move for LG given the history of the G3. From its stock OS, the handset jumped straight to Android 5.0 Lollipop, skipping update 4.4.4 for the KitKat.

If rumors are true, then current G3 owners can expect to receive the Android M as the next update for their handsets once it is officially released to the public.

Hopefully, LG will release an official statement to clarify the rumors and confirm if the G3 will still get the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update in the future.
