The Xperia Z4, which was previously released as an exclusive flagship handset from Sony in Japan, will now arrive for the U.S. market through Verizon.
Renamed as the Xperia Z4v, the handset will feature various changes compared to the original model, according to Android Authority.
Sony released the Xperia Z4 in April 20 in Japan. Although the handset was only made available in that country, Sony later on debuted a European version of the device named as the Xperia Z3+. Both models feature a 5.2-inch display and sport the same specifications. The main difference between the two, on the other hand, is that the Xperia Z3+ has dual SIM support.
Now, almost a month later after the Xperia Z3+'s debut, Sony has unveiled another variant of the device for the U.S. market. The company noted that the renamed Xperia Z4v will be released sometime this summer and can be purchased through Verizon.
Like the first two variants, the Xperia Z4v sports a 5.2-inch display. However, instead of the 1080p spec as seen in the Xperia Z4 and Z3+, the Xperia Z4v's screen has a resolution of 2560x1440 pixels, The Verge reported.
Aside from a better resolution setting, Sony also bumped up the handset's battery capacity. Instead of a 2930mAh battery, the Xperia Z4v is equipped with 3000mAh battery.
But like the original model, the upcoming handset from Verizon, also packs a 20.7 megapixel rear camera. On the front side, the device features a 5.1-megapixel selfie snapper. The device also has 3GB of RAM and is powered by the same Snapdragon 810 processor from Qualcomm.
Recently, Sony encountered a problem with the Xperia Z4 and Xperia Z3+ handsets due to overheating issues. Many sources speculated that this may have been caused by the Snapdragon 810 chipset, NDTV has learned.
In response to the issue, the Japanese tech firm said that it will release a software update to resolve the temperature-related problem. Hopefully, Sony will equip the Xperia Z4v with the same update to prevent overheating issues in the future.
