Months after the release of the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, insiders are reporting that Samsung is currently working on a phablet version of its current flagship devices.

Dubbed as the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, the upcoming handset from the South Korean tech giant will reportedly sport a 5.7-inch display, according to Sam Mobile.

Previously, it was rumored that the device was supposed to have a 5.5-inch screen. But Samsung has apparently changed its mind and opted for a bigger display instead.

At 5.7 inches, the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus can be compared to the company's latest Galaxy Note smartphones.

In addition to a bigger screen size, the display of the rumored device will sport curved edges, which is also a notable design feature of the Galaxy S6 Edge.

As for the device's internal specs, Android Central noted that Samsung has chosen the Snapdragon 808 processor from Qualcomm over its own Exynos 7420, the chipset that powers the company's current flagship device.

Although the former is considered weaker than the latter, LG's G4 handset, which runs on the Snapdragon 808, has already proven that the chipset can handle high-spec devices with a Quad HD display.

But, given Samsung's record regarding its previous releases, some variants of the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus might come with the Snapdragon 808 while other could be powered by the Exynos 7420.

Sources noted that the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus is scheduled to be unveiled sometime during the third quarter of this year, which is the same expected release period for the Android M OS.

Despite the similar schedules, Samsung's upcoming phablet will not come with Google's latest operating system. Instead, it will be pre-loaded with the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, 9to5Google has learned. Hopefully, an Android M update will be released for the handset shortly after its release.

Although various sources have released new information regarding the Galaxy S6 Edge Plus, readers should keep in mind that these are all based on rumors and claims from insiders. There are no official announcements yet from Samsung regarding the phablet's specs and launch date.
