Fans of ‘The Flash’ could be looking forward to a more romance-filled second season as the CW hit series is reportedly casting a major recurring character named Wendy, described as a “spunky, fun and funny” love interest for Barry Allen.
As a police officer for the Central City PD, Wendy will be portrayed as a smart and scientific-minded individual; as the casting call states, the role could be pictured by imagining “Felicity Smoak from ‘Arrow.’”
It has been rumored that Wendy could be Patty Spivot , who is also a member of the city’s CSI. As a blood expert for the crime lab, her character has already been regularly mentioned in the DC Comics universe since the ‘70s and was made a regular in the premiere issue of the New 52 relaunch of ‘The Flash’ comic.
Aside from a romance interest, a new report claims that Barry will be joined by a new hero when the series makes a comeback in the fall, and that such hero is likely to take on a recurring role during the entire second season.
On the casting call, the mysterious hero has been referred to as the good-looking, square-jawed “John Clark”, a man in his 30s to early 40s. According to TVLine, the character is somewhat contemptuous “with an edge.”
As a pseudonym, the name refers to DC Comics letterer John Clark, who previously worked on books such as ‘All-Star Squadron’ and ‘Infinity Inc.’
The cast and crew of ‘The Flash’ are currently keeping the new hero’s true identity a mystery to all; last year, ‘Arrow’ also took on a similar approach when they introduced Ray Palmer by referring to his character as Daniel.
The new hero is then being speculated to be Jay Garrick, whose winged helmet soared out of the portal at the last scene of the finale episode of ‘The Flash.’ However, because Jay is not likely to be described as a cynical character, the up-and-coming hero could be a similar speedster, such as Max Mercury.
If not, rumors are also claiming that the said hero will have connections with the Justice Society.
Season two of ‘The Flash’ will begin airing Tuesdays on CW while Wendy is set to be introduced in the second episode.
