As shown in the season four finale of ‘Once Upon A Time’, the only character who can battle it out with the Darkness and save the newly christened Dark One Emma is Merlin.
While the heroes search for the mysterious Sorcerer, fans can look forward to meeting other new yet familiar characters from Camelot lore.
Aside from casting Merlin for the fifth season, the ABC series will also be putting King Arthur and Guinevere forward as recurring characters.
According to TVLine, ‘Once Upon A Time’ is looking for a Black British actor in his early 30s to 40s who can portray “a man with great wisdom and intelligence beyond his years.”
For King Arthur, he is referred to as a “good and just ruler” who is discreetly capable of manipulating others and can “carry a grudge to the grave, and maybe beyond.” Because of his eternal love for Guinevere, Arthur is expected to be more controlling. For this role, the show is looking for a gentleman in his mid-30s to early 40s, and a natural British accent is required.
Finally, casting call for Guinevere is looking for a Latina in her mid-20s to 30s to portray a “headstrong queen” who falls in love with her husband’s most loyal knight- Lancelot. He was previously played on ‘Once Upon A Time’ by ‘Teen Wolf’ actor Sinqua Walls but is presumed to be dead in the current timeline.
Meanwhile, Rebecca Mader and Sean Maguire were recently announced to have been promoted to series regulars for the fifth season; as such, the Wicked Witch and Robin Hood will still be around in the upcoming episodes.
Previously appearing in ‘Lost’, Mader made her debut as Regina’s (Lana Parrilla) half-sister Zelena, or the green-toned Wicked Witch of the West, in the third season.
British actor Maguire also signed on to the series in season three as a replacement to Tom Ellis, who temporarily played Robin Hood in season two.
Although it may have appeared that Rumple, played by Robert Carlyle, had killed off Zelena ahead of the finale episode in season three, the Wicked Witch traveled back in time and came back with the physical form of Robin Hood’s late wife Marian, as portrayed by Christie Laing.
While Robin and Regina are still expected to have a happy ending, these expectations can change anytime on the hit ABC series.
‘Once Upon A Time’ makes a comeback for its fifth season this fall.
