HTC has released a new firmware update for the One M9 that will improve the device's camera performance and battery consumption.

The over-the-air update, which is based on the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop, will upgrade the device's software to 1.40.401.5, according to Anandtech.

The company already rolled out the update to users in Taiwan about two weeks ago. Users in Europe, Africa and Middle East can expect to receive the update this week.

As for those in the U.S., the update for the One M9 devices is scheduled to arrive this month.

Through the latest update, users can expect to see significant improvements in their devices. For the One M9's camera, HTC has enhanced the auto-exposure balance to improve overexposure and reduced low light noise and blur. These tweaks will enable users to take clearer and more detailed images with their devices.

In addition, the update also reduces the yellow and green hues in photos taken under extreme lighting conditions.

For the battery, HTC focused on trimming down the power consumption by commonly used apps such as Facebook and YouTube. Through the update, One M9 users will be able to use these apps for longer periods of time without straining their device's battery capacity.

The update also improves the charging process of the smartphone. Through thermal management, the One M9 will remain cool when being charged.

Since the update has already been released, users can expect to receive notifications regarding its availability for their region. They can also check if it's available for download through their handset's Settings menu.

Hopefully, the update will help HTC regain the trust and support of consumers. Recently, the company reported that its shares dropped primarily due to the poor sales of the One M9. Apparently, users were not too happy with HTC's current flagship smartphone since it is considered subpar compared to its predecessor, the One M8, Greenbot reported.
