Some 800 Christians gathered at a rally at the Alabama Capitol on Saturday, affirming that marriage is between one man and one woman.

The rally was organized and hosted by Sanctity of Marriage Alabama, and featured leaders from the public sector and from non-profit organizations, including Dr. Joe Godfrey, the Executive Director of Alabama Citizens Action Program (ALCAP); Colonel John Eidsmoe, Legal Counsel at the Foundation for Moral Law; Congressman Gary Palmer (R-AL); Eunie Smith, president of Eagle Forum of Alabama; Kayla Moore, wife of Chief Justice Roy Moore and president of the Foundation for Moral Law; and Nick Williams, associate pastor at Rivers Baptist Church and probate judge of Washington County, among others.

"We stand for Jesus Christ, we stand for marriage, and we stand for the family," said Dr. Aaron Motley, a pastor at Miracle Deliverance Temple of Christ.

"The issue here has progressed so that it's no longer just about whether people of the same sex can be married," said Congressman Palmer. "It's a war on Christianity."

"We [Christians] have got to be willing to stand up and testify to the truth of the gospel, with love in our hearts, but with the courage not to back down," Palmer said. "Nine justices will not determine the spiritual future of this country. It's people like you and me and people that stand in the pulpit who will determine the future of this country."

The rally comes as the nation is soon expecting to hear from the Supreme Court on its decision from the recent Obergefell v. Hodges case regarding the constitutionality of same-sex marriages, a decision which is to be made some time this month.

Similarly, 43,000 signed the 'Pledge in Solidarity to Defend Marriage,' a pledge that affirms marriage and family is between one man and one woman. Key signers include Republican presidential candidates Rick Santorum and Mike Huckabee; Dr. Ché Ahn, founding pastor of HRock Church in Pasadena; Rev. Dr. Samuel Rodriguez, president of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference; and Bishop Harry Jackson, founder of High Impact Leadership Coalition.
