Amy Poehler signed on to ‘Inside Out’ to lend her voice as Joy, one of the bright and colorful characters in the new Disney Pixar animated film. The movie is mainly based in Headquarters, which is known as the control center located inside 11-year-old Riley’s mind.
Within the command control, five emotions continue to work and Joy takes on the task of protecting the young girl’s optimistic spirit.
Meanwhile, Bill Hader lends his voice to Fear who helps ensure safety whereas Lewis Black voices Anger who guarantees fairness and equality.
Disgust, who is voiced by Mindy Kaling, stops Riley from being poisoned by physical and social threats.
Finally, Phyllis Smith voices Sadness who is quite uncertain as to what role she plays in Riley’s life.
Last Saturday, Poehler opened up about her character and described her as being energetic and full of life. After watching the movie, the 43-year-old actress also revealed that she often relates to the emotions of joy, sadness and anger.
"Fear and disgust don't enter my life as much. I'm looking forward to visiting those in my 60s and 70s,” Poehler jokingly shared.
The mother of two also explained how the movie became a reminder for her that “time goes by fast” and that her kids won’t stay little forever.
While ‘Inside Out’ offers plenty of laughs, it also reaches out to the heart, especially among parents. The actress explained how moms and dads instinctively tell their children that it is alright to have a tough day. However, the movie can be an eye-opener to the fact that kids’ feelings should be understood from their perspective and be released in a helpful way.
Additionally, ‘Inside Out’ reaches out to a broad audience.
"This is the first time I've said this but I actually think this movie is a good date movie," Poehler said. "Because I think you could go on a date and then you could talk about your feelings afterward."
The ‘Parks and Recreation’ star even offered advice for the males to bring their partners to watch the film.
"If there's any takeaway, it's take your ladies to ‘Inside Out.’ She will cry. Take her to a nice dinner and you will close that deal. I guarantee it," Poehler said, while jokingly adding: “Disney wanted me to tell you that."
‘Inside Out’ is set to hit theaters on June 19. Its trailer is available below.
