A new video reviewing Sony's Xperia Z3+ on YouTube revealed that the Snapdragon 810 from Qualcomm may still be experiencing overheating issues.
The clip came a month after an executive from the semiconductor maker said that the rumors about the heating problems are not true.
Various benchmark tests conducted on devices running on Snapdragon 810, such as the HTC One M9 and LG G Flex 2, revealed that its processors overheat. These then led the public to conclude that Qualcomm is experiencing major problems with its premium processor model.
However, in May, Qualcomm's vice president of marketing, Tim McDonough, told Forbes that the processors used in the benchmark tests were early versions of the Snapdragon 810. In addition, the handsets that were tested were also unreleased models.
The company then noted that the latest version of the chipset, which is the Snapdragon 810 v2.1, will not cause the same problem for the handsets. This is the same version used by Sony for its recently unveiled Xperia Z3+ smartphone.
But in a video posted by gadget reviewer Btekt on YouTube, the Xperia Z3+ running on the Snapdragon 810 v2.1 was having overheating problems. For the duration of the clip, which was less than four minutes long, the presenter kept receiving alerts regarding the high temperature of the device.
According to the notices, if the handset's temperature continues to rise, then some apps and functions will be forced to shut down.
"Some apps and services closed due to a temperature rise in the device," one of the notes read. "The device has now cooled down"
After a few minutes, however, the handset's camera turned off automatically due to the overheating problem.
Despite the heating problems, Phone Arena noted that the Xperia Z3+ used in the video is a prototype model. Also, it was running on unreleased software. This means the overall performance of the device and its processor can still change once the handset is released with commercial software.
