"Wolverine" actor Hugh Jackman has earlier revealed that "Wolverine 3" will be his last stint as the invincible mutant, and that he is hanging up his claws for good after that.
He even joked that it's because of the diet involved in order to become the buff Wolverine. "It was a gut feeling," he said. "I don't know how many more egg white omelettes I can eat." Jackman has maintained his figure as Wolverine for 17 years already, and it is no easy feat acquiring that kind of physique, much more keep it the same way for several years straight.
Now that Jackman is through with Wolverine, the question on everybody's minds right now is - who will be replacing him?
"Kingsman: The Secret Service" actor Taron Egerton is keen to take on the role if given the opportunity. In an interview with Screen Rant, the actor humbly noted that it would be difficult to become the next Wolverine following Jackman, but he would still love to try if the spotlight does land on him. He mulled the possibility of becoming the X-Men's most popular mutant and laughingly said: "I don't know if I'm quite grizzly enough. My facial hair is still very thin and patchy. I feel someone who plays Wolverine potentially needs testosterone in abundance. Yeah, I'd love to have a go at it, but I don't know."
Surprisingly, he was with Jackman when the elder actor made his retirement announcement, and Egerton even had the chance to exchange a few words with Jackman about it.
"I was with Hugh the day that he announced his retirement from that role. I did joke about that very thing with him. But the phone hasn't rang yet, my friend, so I don't know," he said. This is not the first time that Egerton's name has been included in X-Men talks, since the actor reportedly made the shortlist as the young Cyclops in the upcoming movie "X-Men: Apocalypse." However, the role eventually went to Tye Sheridan.
For the meantime though, Egerton will be busy working on the sequel for "Kingsman: The Secret Service," where he will be reprising his role as the delinquent-turned-secret agent Eggsy.
One of the lead characters of the original film, Harry Hart (played by Colin Firth) was unfortunately killed off by the villain Valentine, but Egerton has high hopes that the director and writers will find some way to get him back for the sequel.
