French actress Marion Cotillard will be joining Brad Pitt in a yet untitled spy thriller that will be directed by Robert Zemeckis. The film is being developed for Paramount by New Regency and producer Graham King.
According to Coming Soon, the film will be written by Eastern Promises writer Steven Knight, but the plot remains a closely guarded secret for the meantime. Cotillard will start working on the film after she is done with the movie adaptation of "Assassin's Creed" which is also for New Regency and will be distributed by Fox.
The untitled movie will actually reunite Zemeckis with Paramount following their 2012 hit of a movie "Flight" which starred Denzel Washington. The movie received two Oscar nominations.
Their next project will be produced by King, Zemeckis, and Steve Starke with Knight, Jack Rapke, Patrick McCormick and Denis O'Sullivan on as executive producers.
Pitt and Zemeckis has actually asked the studio to push back production of the unnamed spy thriller to 2016 just so they can accommodate the casting of Cotillard, while Pitt works on his military comedy called "War Machine," which is being developed for Paramount by New Regency and producer Graham King.
Pitt will star in the film as a four-star rock star U.S. military general, and his character will be patterned after General Stanley McChrystal, who was the commanding general of international and U.S. forces in Afghanistan.
The film will be a satirical comedy that is inspired by the bestselling novel called "The Operators: The Wild and Terrifying Inside Story of America's War in Afghanistan" written by the late journalist Michael Hastings.
Netflix has acquired the distribution rights to "War Machine" while David Michod will be directing it as well as write the script. Michod has previously worked on "Animal Kingdom" and "The Rover."
On the other hand, Pitt and his Plan B colleagues Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner will produce "War Machine" with Ian Bryce.
Pitt has a deep fascination with war movies, having earlier starred in "Inglorious Basterds" as Lieutenant Aldo Raine, together with Diane Kruger, Eli Roth, Christopher Waltz, Michael Fassbender, and Daniel Bruhl, among other cast members.
Just last year, he appeared in another war movie called "Fury," where he portrayed Don "Wardaddy" Collier. His co-stars include Logan Lerman, Shiah LeBeouf, Michael Peña, Jon Bernthal, Jim Parrack, and Brad William Henke.
Both movies were box office hits and received positive reviews from critics.
