HTC has unveiled through its Twitter account a 24-karat gold version of its One M9 device.

According to the company, the handset was designed to celebrate the end of the UEFA Champions League.

The smartphone sports a golden casing and will be released as a limited edition version of HTC's current flagship handset. Since it was designed for the famous continental football competition, its back cover features UEFA's logo and other details regarding the event, 9to5Google has learned.

Seating details and the schedule of the final match between FC Barcelona and Juventus, which took place on June 6 in Berlin, are also written on the back.

Despite the glamorous new appearance of the new One M9 handset, various Twitter users and even tech news sites are poking fun at HTC's revelation because of how its photo was taken.

Twitter user olliestorey pointed out that the picture of the handset posted by HTC was taken using an Apple iPhone.

Due to the shininess of the handset's body, it was able to clearly capture the reflection of the HTC employee who took the photo. Based on the zoomed-in image posted by the user, the person in the photo apparently used an Apple handset to take a picture of the device, according to Venture Beat.

Due to the reaction received by the golden One M9 from the public, HTC took down its amusing photo from its Twitter page and replaced it with new ones.

HTC did not mention if the golden smartphone variant will pack different features than its conventional counterpart. But various sources speculated that the handset will probably come with the same specs.

Also, the company did not indicate when the limited edition golden One M9 handset will be released and how consumers will be able to get their hands on it.
