Set for a release on July 7, the upcoming science fiction novel titled ‘Time Salvager’ by Wesley Chu will be headed to the big screen and will reportedly be helmed by the four-time ‘Transformers’ director Michael Bay.

He is set to direct a big-screen adaptation that is being developed by Paramount Pictures.

As the title suggests, the story will follow a time travel adventure that is undergone by convicted criminal James Griffin-Mars. During this time, humans have abandoned the Earth and what is left of it, fleeing into the outer solar system for survival despite the knowledge that existence cannot be guaranteed in other planets.

Those who seek a solution are looking into time travel as their main hope, identifying James as one of the few individuals who are capable of carrying out “the most dangerous job in history.”

Being described as a “chronman”, James is expected to collect resources from the Earth’s past without changing the timeline.

“Most chronmen never reach old age; the stress of each jump through time, compounded by the risk to themselves and to the future, means that many chronmen rapidly reach their breaking point, and James Griffin-Mars is nearing his,” as stated by the synopsis available in Chu’s official site.

Almost at the end of his career, James breaks the principal rule by rescuing a female scientist named Elise Kim, who is destined to die, from an earlier date. Such decision brings the two of them into the future and turns them into fugitives.

The story’s synopsis concludes with: “Remaining free means losing themselves in the wild and poisonous wastes of Earth, somehow finding allies, and perhaps discovering what hope may yet remain for humanity’s home world.”

More details on casting for ‘Time Salvager’ are expected to be announced soon.

Meanwhile, Bay’s upcoming movie ’13 Hours’ is currently in production. Pablo Schreiber, John Krasinski, James Badge Dale, David Denman, Max Martini and Dominic Fumusa are all on board for the film.

It highlights the true events that occurred in the 2012 terrorist attack within the US State Department Special Mission Compound as well as a CIA station in Benghazi, Libya.

In addition, Bay will be returning for ‘Transformers 5’ but will not be taking on directorial duties this time.
