Emily Blunt sure is one busy girl!
She is now set to star in DreamWorks' adaptation of the bestselling novel written by Paula Hawkins called "The Girl on the Train."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will be set in London and directed by Tate Taylor. There will actually be three special roles for women in the film, and the first one has already gone to Blunt.
She will be playing the movie's main narrator - a jobless alcoholic who is depressed because of her recent divorce. Because of this, she develops an unhealthy obsession with the seemily perfect couple who live in a house that she passes by constantly.
Things change drastically for her character when she comes home one night all drenched in blood, and she is unable to remember what happened to her following a massive drinking episode. She begins to realize and fear that she might have been a witness to a crime, or much worse- been involved in it.
Marc Platt will be producing the film and then executive produced by Jared LeBoff. Erin Cressida Wilson will be adapting the screenplay.
DreamWorks acquired the rights to the fiercely contested novel in 2014, prior to the book's publication. The Girl on the Train went on to top the New York Times best-seller list for a dozen weeks. Two million copies of the book have been sold, according to DreamWorks.
It has actually been compared to "Gone Girl" (written by Gillian Flynn), another successful book-turned-movie, since both stories have female narrators who are quite unreliable. In the case of "Gone Girl," Rosamund Pike's character Amy Dunne is a conniving scorned wife who went to great lengths just to have her husband arrested.
Blunt's star is definitely on the rise after she received positive reviews in Cannes for her starring role in Denis Vileneuve's "Sicario," which will be released by Lionsgate on September 18 this year. Earlier, she received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Rob Marshall's musical "Into the Woods." She will also star in the upcoming "The Huntsman" film alongside Charlize Theron and Chris Hemsworth.
