The CEO of luxury timepiece maker Tag Heuer has revealed the official name of the company's first smartwatch.

Dubbed as the Tag Heuer Carrera Wearable 01, CEO Jean-Claude Biver said the device will resemble one of the company's popular traditional watches.

In an interview with Wareable, Biver noted that the company wants to produce a smartwatch that still carries Tag Heuer's traditional design. This is why the Swiss firm patterned the external look of the smartwatch based on Carrera Heuer 01 watch.

"There is no other choice for Tag Heuer than to have all its DNA, all its watch making emotion and flair into the connected watch," he told the news site. "Somehow, one should not see from a certain distance the difference between a Carrera Heuer 01 and a Carrera Wearable 01."

So far, the company has remained tight lipped regarding the exact specifications of its first entry into the wearable device market. The only main information regarding the device is that it will be built in partnership with Intel and Google.

But based on previous rumors, Tag Heuer may be planning on marketing the Carrera Wearable 01 as a device with a fully upgradeable hardware, according to 9to5Google.

If this is true, then this aspect might be able to catapult the company ahead of the other tech companies that have produced their own smartwatches.

Alexandra King, the company's communications manager for Tag Heuer, previously hinted that with an upgradeable design, the firm will be able to create a smartwatch that can keep up with the latest technological trends.

"The watch will change the technology as it develops, Jean-Claude Biver was clear about that," King told Wareable. "We want to be able to change the technology but keep the watch elements.

"We want to create something that will stay on your watch for a lifetime, that's what Tag Heuer does," she added. "And as the technology changes, it will change."

The Tag Heuer Carrera Wearable 01 is expected to be released sometime in October or November of this year and might have a retail price of $1,400.
