A lot of men would not mind being labelled as a hunk, but "Game of Thrones" star Kit Harrington does not seem to like it and even considers it "ridiculous."
"To always be put on a pedestal as a hunk is slightly demeaning," he told Page Six. Harrington shot to the limelight because of his role as Jon Snow in George R. R. Martin's "Game of Thrones" series.
And while he is grateful because of the success it has given him, there is a downside to fame. "I'm in a successful TV show in a kind of leading man way and it can sometimes feel like your art is being put to one side for your sex appeal. And I don't like that," he said.
Harrington added that it's not just the men who are suffering from this, but also the women. "Well, it's not just men that can be inappropriate sexually; women can be as well," he said. "When an actor is seen only for her physical beauty, it can be quite offensive."
The actor also revealed that he often gets asked what it feels like being a heartthrob or a hunk, and his answer will always be the same: That's not why he got into acting.
He values the art form of acting more than he does the adulation the public has on his physical beauty, and Harrington said that he has connected really well with his character Jon Snow.
"Well, I have an inner warrior," he smilingly said. "And I'm proud of my inner warrior. He fights for me every day. That's one of the things I like about myself. I can be quite brave in situations and foolhardy at the same time. Like Jon, just like Jon."
Harrington also thinks that they are both "black sheep," and even though he is not quite the outcast in society as Jon is, they share the same difficulty of fitting in. Just like his character, Harrington is also a very private person and he is not good at being an extrovert.
"Although around my friends I can be quite lively," he quipped.
Another thing he has in common with the Lord Commander of the Night's Watch? Redheads. "Love redheads," he laughingly said.
However, when it comes to his own hair, Harrington is a little touchy on the subject. Talking about his hair irritates him, admitted Harrington, because people fuss so much about it. At the same time, he is really terrified of going bald.
