Director James Gunn of the original Guardians of the Galaxy film and its sequel is teasing fans about the status update of his next film.

He shared a photo of the Guardians of the Galaxy 2 draft on his Twitter account and wrote, "Phew. 1st draft #GotG2. #NoSpoilers #NotEventheTitle."

Because of the surprise success of the first movie, there has been a lot of pressure on Gunn to create an even more powerful story for the sequel. He has said that his next movie will not be based on the comic books, and even though the top brass at Marvel feared it might be "too risky," they had enough faith in Gunn's capability and decided to push through with it.

"It's not really based on anything. The story for Guardians 2 is an original story that I came up with that I started working on actually while I was shooting Guardians 1, and it'll answer some of the questions that were put forth in the first movie about Peter Quill's father and who he is and what's going on with that," he shared in Alison Rosen's podcast.

Gunn also shared that the next story of Guardians will be "all about families" so they will also focus on Quill's relationship with his father, as well as the relationship Gamora has with her sister Nebula.

"I'm still excited about Star-Lord's character and where he goes," he added. "At its heart, Guardians is a story about families, and if the first film was about him and his mother, this is a story about fathers. So it's exciting to go there."

When they created the first movie, Gunn said that their hands were actually tied since they had to introduce a lot of characters within a short amount of time. But now that they have already successfully done that already, all they have to do now is "have a good time and have fun" in working on the sequel.

"I knew for a long time what the story of the second one was gonna be," he excitedly said, before quickly adding, "And the third one!"

The Guardians of the Galaxy sequel has been scheduled for release on May 5, 2017. It will bring back the main cast comprised of Chris Pratt as Star-Lord, Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Batista as Drax the Destroyer, Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon and Vin Diesel as the beloved sidekick Groot.
