The announcement of the cancellation of "Tron 3: Legacy" shocked a number of fans of the franchise especially since news broke out earlier that the team have actually started planning the filming process and adding members of the cast and crew to the project, according to The Hollywood Reporter. While this news broke many hearts upon its confirmation, "Tron 3" actress Olivia Wilde says that there is a silver lining.
Confirming that the project is truly no longer happening, Wilde told the fans of "Tron 3" to "not trip" as positive things may actually come out of the cancellation, as reported by E Online. One of the things that the actress pointed out as an advantage is the fact that she will no longer have to undergo such rigorous dieting to fit into the tight rubber suit, which is her costume in the said show. She posted on Twitter on Tuesday, "Tron fans! Don't trip. Now I don't have to live on seaweed juice and tofu dust for 6 months to fit into a rubber suit."
While Wilde appears to be unperturbed by Disney's decision to discontinue the project, the fans and followers of the show are actively campaigning to bring it back. In fact, online petitions have been launched since the announcement that the company halted the continuation of the franchise, according to IGN.
"Tron: Legacy grossed over 400 million dollars and helped more fully realize the world created in the original Tron," wrote the creator, Lucas Lowman, of an online campaign put up Change.org. "It's a shame that Disney has elected not to move forward with a third Tron film as the universe is ripe to be explored. Sign this petition so that we may show Disney that The Grid is too great to never be shown again and to prove that Flynn lives," he added.
The petition, titled "Revive Tron 3," has garnered 18,000 thousand signatures online in a matter of two days since it was set up. While IGN points out that the petition launched by netizens might not persuade Disney to reconsider its decision, it appears that the outpouring of support from fans and followers of the franchise at least proved one thing - "Tron: Legacy" actually has a solid fan base.
