Various sources are reporting that developer EA Sports will not release the upcoming "FIFA 16" to Nintendo platforms.
In addition, the developer confirmed that the game will not be arriving to handheld consoles as well, according to Gamerant.
Similar to the previous announcement that "FIFA 16" will feature women's soccer teams, EA Sports' decision to skip Nintendo platforms is another first for the game series' history.
Since 2001, "FIFA" games were released on various consoles including those from Nintendo, which at that time was the GameCube. Now, however, it seems owners of Wii U won't be able to enjoy the upcoming installment from the series, which is expected to arrive for the Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
Aside from this, the game will also not be released for handheld consoles such as the PlayStation Vita and Nintendo's 3DS.
"With regards to 'FIFA 16' there isn't a VITA or 3DS version," a representative from EA Sports told Pocket Gamer.
The company did not offer a reason regarding the decision to snub Nintendo and handheld consoles for the game's release. As for a 'FIFA 16' port for mobile devices, the spokesperson for the company said updates about this version will be announced in the future.
"We don't have any further detail on the mobile version but will be sure to share with you when we hear more," the representative said.
This could be another disappointing piece of information for most gamers since a "FIFA" game for handheld devices has always been a staple for the soccer simulation series. With almost every release, it was accompanied by ports for either Game Boy Advance, PlayStation Portable, DS, 3DS or PlayStation Vita.
Hopefully, EA Sports will release an official statement explaining its decision regarding the release of the game on selected platforms.
"FIFA 16" is scheduled to come out on September 22 of this year.
