New rumors suggest that Xiaomi is preparing to unveil its newest handset, the Mi 5 sometime in November this year.
The new information contradicts previous reports regarding a possible early launch of Xiaomi's next flagship smartphone.
Originally, the Xiaomi Mi 5 was rumored to be introduced in July of this year. This is based on the fact that its predecessor, the Mi 4, was unveiled during the same month in 2014.
But according to new details obtained by Chinese news site IT168, and translated by Android Headlines, Xiaomi is targeting a much later launch date, which is around November. Although the site did not mention a possible explanation by Xiaomi regarding the alleged launch month, it coincides with the company's release timeline posted by another Chinese site Mobile-Dad.
Based on the timeline, the Xiaomi Mi 5 is expected to be unveiled on November 15. However, it isn't clear how the site obtained the timeline or if it was actually from Xiaomi. In other words, the suggested launch date is only based on rumors and the company has not yet issued a formal announcement regarding the Mi 5's release.
Aside from the rumored launch date, various sources also revealed the expected specifications of the upcoming flagship device.
NDTV reported that the smartphone will have a 5.5-inch Quad HD display with a resolution of 1440x2560 pixels and might be powered by the Snapdragon 820 chipset from Qualcomm. It will have 4GB of RAM and could come with an internal storage of 16GB or 64GB.
The upcoming device is expected to pack a 16-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front-facing snapper. Other rumored features include a fingerprint scanner.
Aside from these, NDTV noted that Xiaomi is also preparing to unveil a Plus variant along with the Mi 5. This handset, which is said to come with a bigger 6-inch screen, will sport a bezel-less display design. It is rumored to have 32GB of internal storage and 4GB of RAM.
