Days after the first OS update for the Apple Watch was released, several users have complained that it is affecting a particular feature of their wearable devices.
Specifically, users said the OS 1.0.1 is causing the smartwatch to send inconsistent heart rate data, Apple Insider reported.
Before the arrival of the update, the Apple Watch tracks and sends data about the user's heart rate to his or her iPhone device every 10 minutes. However, after installing OS 1.0.1, several users complained that their smartwatches would sometimes take hours before tracking their heart rate.
In some cases, the Apple Watch doesn't record data at all.
"I just got my watch yesterday and installed the update right away, but noticed this same thing," user millerrh512 wrote on the Apple Support page. "I see one reading from two hours ago that seemed to have automatically appeared in the health app, but certainly not every 10 minutes like they say."
"Thought it was a problem with the sensor, and was coming here to see if others had this problem, but maybe [it's] an issue with the last update," the user continued.
Other users reported that the device's heart rate monitor will only work once the Workout app has been enabled or if it's forced to take a reading. However, when used as a background function only, the device fails to properly to record the users' heart rate information.
Those who contacted Apple customer service department were told to restart their Apple Watches and clean their sensors. Although these methods worked temporarily, the users continued to experience the same problem after a few minutes or hours of using the smartwatch.
Mac Rumors noted that although Apple has not yet released a permanent fix for the update's issue, the company is currently collecting vital feedback from users as part of its efforts to resolve the matter.
