Paramount Pictures made its official announcement on the release of the second ‘World War Z’ film, which has been scheduled for an official premiere on June 9, 2017.
Starring Brad Pitt, the zombie sequel has been set for a release date that will rival the upcoming ‘Fantastic Four’ reboot from Fox, which stars Miles Teller and Kate Mara.
The first ‘World War Z’ film was recognized as the most successful movie of Pitt’s career to date as it pulled in a total of $540 million in the global box office, almost tripling the movie’s budget of $190 million.
Most often, blockbuster movies during the summer avoid having the same release dates as each other owing to the fact that opening weekends significantly determine their overall chances for success.
If viewers learn that a movie’s performance is weaker than expected in its first few days, it is likely such individuals will not bother to go watch it.
‘World War Z’ is based on Max Brooks’ novel, which itself is a follow-up book to his own manual, ‘The Zombie Survival Guide.’
In the movie, Pitt takes on the role of an investigator who previously worked for the United Nations and is on a mission to travel the world to find a cure for the zombie pandemic.
For the ‘World War Z’ sequel, plot details are yet to be announced. However, during the time when Pitt’s production company Plan B was developing the first film, Brooks revealed that Paramount has secured the rights to his zombie survival guide along with its spinoff comic ‘The Zombie Survival Guide: Recorded Attacks.’
The second installment will be directed by Spanish director J.A Bayona, who previously helmed the 2007 horror film ‘The Orphanage’ and 2012’s ‘The Impossible’, which followed the events that took place relating to the Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004.
Steven Knight, who previously worked as writer and producer for ‘Locke’, has been set to come up with the screenplay for the ‘World War Z’ sequel while Pitt will serve as one of its producers.
Meanwhile, aside from ‘World War Z 2’, the 51-year-old actor is on board with his wife Angelina Jolie for the upcoming relationship drama ‘By The Sea.’
Directed by the award-winning actress based on her own script, the new movie marks the return of the Hollywood power couple in a movie together since their spy film ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’ was released over a decade ago.
