After the first trailer for Sony’s sci-fi action comedy ‘Pixels’ reportedly generated over 34 million views only days after it was released, the studio now unveils another trailer featuring old-school world-saving gamers.
In the latest trailer for ‘Pixels’, the fate of the world rests in the hands of a team starring Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Josh Gad, Peter Dinklage and Michelle Monaghan. They have been set to portray video game champions who were experts at playing classic arcade games in the ’80s.
While Sandler dominated Pac-Man, Gad did extraordinarily well in Centipede. Dinklage was also a champion in Donkey Kong.
James joins the film as the president of the United States, who enlists his childhood best friend, played by Sandler, as well as a group of middle-aged game experts to save humanity from an alien invasion that will come in the form of famous video game characters. Monaghan takes on the role of the team’s unique weapons specialist.
Directed by Chris Columbus, who previously worked on the first two ‘Harry Potter’ movies as well as ‘Mrs. Doubtfire’ and ‘Home Alone’, ‘Pixels’ presents scenes from Patrick Jean’s short film in 2010. Such movie follows the story of an alien race which gets the wrong impression about classic arcade game video feeds, believing that such entertaining fixtures are humans’ call for war.
Consequently, the aliens come up with their own response and head to Earth, sending games and characters to let humans know that they have answered to their call. Such characters include Pac-Man, Qbert, and Donkey Kong, to name a few, as they are used as villains in the movie.
The latest trailer shows Pac-Man devouring a city as he is met by Sandler and his team, all riding in brightly colored vehicles. As the clip ends, a message flashes on the screen, saying “Happy 35th Anniversary, Pac-Man! Love, Pixels.” The trailer can be viewed below.
Meanwhile, the first ever trailer for ‘Pixels’ shows Sandler and his team in their mission to protect the world from the classic video game creations; the team was also shown to be in awe with the huge versions of their arcade heroes who have landed on Earth to destroy the humans.
