For the growing number of iZombie fans, RahulKohli is someone they have grown to love, especially for his excellent portrayal as the supportive friend Ravi. It might shock a lot of fans, but his character was not actually included in the comic books, and now the actor is dishing out on the differences between the comic books and the television series.
He told Comic Book that he understands quite well the loyalty fans have on comic books. "I'm a big gamer, so I know what message boards can look like at their messiest," he said. "The wrath of an angry gamer fanboy? I don't think much compares to it."
So before doing the show, he is already expecting some "heat" from fans, regardless if they do a direct adaptation or decide to take another route, which is "to make a show that has its DNA and heart and is more inspired by rather than a direct adaptation."
Kohli understands the exasperation some people feel towards zombies. Right now on television, there are two highly popular zombie shows already, and these are Z Nation and The Walking Dead.
"Why do we need another zombie show?" he asked. "People say the zombie genre is overdone. People are never going to be happy."
But with good content, the actor believes that there is something to hope for. That's the best thing people can do, he said, regardless of how much they rely on the source material.
Now that the show has managed to warm up to audiences, people have been giving Kohli some pretty amazing feedback. He would read people saying, "Oh, wow, I gave the show a chance and it's really fun, it's really entertaining." But the actor said he does not feel any "We told you so" kind of satisfaction.
Instead, he just feels really happy that people appreciate the show because that was how he reacted when he first read the script.
Another thing Kohli appreciates is the fact that the show creators have no complaints whatsoever with what they have done to the show so far, and actually even enjoy it.
"The fact that the creators enjoy the show was just huge. If they hadn't liked it, they probably would have just been radio silence and we'd have gone on with our jobs. But the fact that they've supported it has been one of the highlights of this season," he said.
