James Gunn's new movie Guardians of the Galaxy 2 is already shaping up quite well, with the script almost done and now casting in the works.

The film will be bringing back the well-loved anti-heroes from the first film, and they are Chris Pratt's Star Lord, Zoe Saldana's Gamora, Dave Batista's Drax the Destroyer, Bradley Cooper's Rocket, and Vin Diesel's Rocket. They will begin production next February, according to Screen Rant.

Gunn said that he wants to add two female members to the Guardians of the Galaxy team, as well as recruiting someone "familiar," which might be one of the Avengers, Yondu (Michael Rooker), or Kraglin (who is played by Gunn's own brother Sean).

The sorting process for the new characters have already begun, added Gunn, and he already has someone very special in mind to play the new Guardian.

Gunn has already submitted a 70-page story treatment to Marvel's creative committee, according to Screen Rant, which producers feared might be "too risky" since it is very different from the comic books, but they gave it a go signal anyway.

His original Guardians of the Galaxy film was a surprise success, and now that the lead characters have all been properly introduced, Gunn will now focus on delving into their back stories and introduce more characters, including his reported favorite - possibly Star Lord's father.

There is so much mystery surrounding this character. Gunn said he does not like the name or story of J'Son of Spartax (Star Lord's father in the Marvel comic books), and if he decided to remain loyal to the comic books, then the sequel for Guardians of the Galaxy will be much like Star Wars.

The director added that the sequel will be "all about fathers" and that Star Lord's dad will play an integral role in the entire franchise. Most of the questions fans have from the first movie will be answered in the sequel as well.

Aside from Peter Quill's familial relationships, Gamora's ties with Nebula will also be tackled in the sequel. In the original film, the two have antagonistic feelings towards one another. They are not sisters by birth, but they were both raised by the villainous Thanos. Nebula completely supports Thanos while Gamora does not.

As of now, Gunn is taking a break from work before he heads to Columbia on June to work on his next film called The Belco Experiment, which he is both writing and producing.
