A new post from the "Need for Speed" Facebook page revealed that the newest installment from the racing game series will be unveiled on Thursday.

According to the post, fans of the series are encouraged to subscribe to the "Need for Speed" YouTube channel for the upcoming announcement, Game Spot reported.

The last title from the "Need for Speed" series, named "Need for Speed Rivals," came out in November of 2013. Due to the layoffs that occurred in the franchise's current development studio, Ghost Games, the series skipped 2014 without any new releases. Instead, only a new edition of "Need for Speed Rivals" came out that year.

Electronic Arts, the series' publisher, then announced that the franchise will be taking a break until 2015. Ghost Games also issued a statement and assured fans that it will use the time to focus on developing the next "Need for Speed" title.

"We are already deep in development on our next game and want to make this promise to you: we will listen to you," the studio said in May of last year according to Gamerant.

"We're going to give you the game you've been asking for," Ghost Games added. "It will be the game you deserve, but to do that will take us some time."

Now, a year later, it seems Ghost Games has kept its promise as the studio is gearing up to introduce to the public the latest installment of the "Need for Speed" series.

With the unveil set on May 21, the new title from the racing game series will probably come out sometime this year. However, there are no details yet as to which platforms the upcoming game will debut or what its storyline will be.

The first "Need for Speed" game was released in 1994. Its sequels were released semi-annually by various developers.
