It's no surprise that people are already overanalyzing everything there is to know about the first Supergirl traile, and a lot of things about the pilot episode have been revealed in the minutes-long trailer.
Only a few glimpses of Melissa Benoist's Kara Zor-El and her newborn cousin Kal was shown in the trailer. Kara was seen wearing a necklace that might or might not match the one her mother is wearing, observed Screen Rant. But whether or not it is of value, just like the crystal Kal-El brought from his planet, or simply a sentimental token from her family remains to be seen.
The infant Kara was being pulled away from her broken spaceship by someone wearing trademark blue sleeves means that the first one she saw on earth was actually her cousin Kal-El. She appears to be in awe of her cousin who flies above her like a god, and she remembers his warm welcome to earth for the rest of her life.
The trailer also showed the Danvers family, who takes Kara in and raises her as their own. The family has a sprawling backyard where she can run and fly and test her abilities without being scrutinized by nosy neighbors or government officials.
It was actually Kal-El who chose the Danvers family to raise Kara, and the trailer showed a scene where Kara hugs Superman before he leaves her. It also appears that Superman just wants Kara to have a normal, happy childhood and does not impose any need for her to fulfil a mission or use her superpowers.
Moreover, the Danvers' family daughter Alex, played by Chyler Leigh witnesses Superman dropping off her new sister, and it remains to be seen whether or not the newest addition to her family would be a positive or negative influence in her life. However, the adult version of Kara and Alex show that they actually have a healthy relationship, and Alex even takes on work at the US government's Department of Extranormal Operations.
The setting for Supergirl, which is National City, appears to be set on an American coast, so it means that Kara and Alex both move away from their parents' home as they got older to pursue their big city dreams.
It already looks like Kara's origina story in the upcoming series is already a bit different from what the comic books have to offer. Kara is often depicted as a teenager when she arrives on earth, but in the CBS series, she is much younger and Superman takes an active part playing the "father figure" role in her life.
