The Android 5.1 Lollipop update has started to arrive for Motorola's 2nd generation Moto E handsets.

Motorola confirmed the update's roll out by posting the Lollipop's release notes through its website.

Based on the tech company's post, the latest version of the Android Lollipop comes with various enhancements and bug fixes for the Moto E and its 4G counterpart.

One of the features listed by Motorola is improvements regarding the notifications settings. With the latest update, users will now be able to block interruptions until their next notification alarm. They will also have more options regarding the downtime schedule and change the notification volume even if they're using the device's media features.

Users will also have the option to dismiss heads-up notifications by swiping them away from the screen. These will then be transferred to their notifications tray.

For selecting Wi-Fi access points or paired Bluetooth devices, the Android 5.1 Lollipop update comes with a new pull-down menu.

In addition, through the update, a stolen or misplaced device cannot be unlocked even if the factory settings have been reset. It can only be used once the user signs in using his or her official Google account.

Apart from the improvements, the update also comes with fixes for various issues experienced by users. Some of these include Wi-Fi connectivity issues, battery drain and problems with the clock not updating.

Moto E owners can expect to receive a notification regarding the availability of the update. Once they receive the message, they can download the latest Lollipop version and install it. The device will automatically restart once installation is complete.

For those who want to check the update's availability manually, they can do so by heading over to the Settings menu. They should then select About Phone and proceed to the System Updates option. From there, they'll be able to see if Android 5.1 Lollipop is ready for download.
