‘Supergirl’ is flying back to television in the form of Melissa Benoist on a new CBS series. The actress most recently appeared as Marley Rose on Fox’s ‘Glee’ and will be portraying ‘Supergirl’ as how the comic books truly represent the character.

“It will be true to the mythology of the character,” CBS Entertainment Chairman Nina Tassler said last Wednesday, although she did not exclude certain changes that give Supergirl a more contemporary touch.

According to Tassler, Supergirl’s cousin Kal-El, who came to Earth and had grown up as Superman, will also be highlighted in the upcoming series and will be given a role in the storyline.

‘Supergirl’ will make its debut on Fox in early November and will air every Monday, providing an impressive face-off of DC comics-based characters as the network also airs Gotham, the ‘Batman’ origin story, in the same timeslot.

“We see ‘Supergirl’ as much more than a comic show or a genre show. We hope it’s something a whole family can watch together,” CBS Senior Executive Vice President Kelly Kahl stated.

Same as her cousin Clark Kent, Supergirl also takes on a job at a media office where her sassy, no-nonsense boss will be portrayed by Calista Flockhart.

The superhero’s backstory focuses on her experiences after coming to Earth more than two decades ago and keeping her superpowers to herself.

Once the series begins, Supergirl will be selected by Hank Henshaw (David Harewood), chief of a secret agency whose mission is to save not only their city but the country and possibly the world as well.

In a 6-minute trailer unveiled by CBS for ‘Supergirl’, the video featured the 26-year-old actress along with Flockhart, Jeremy Jordan and Mehcad Brooks, and seemed to go into the beginning as to how the well-known heroine came to be.

'You may know his story, but you don't know mine... until now,' Supergirl says as she is depicted as a child while her mother tells her that she will carry out 'extraordinary things' on Earth.

Melissa already took to her social media accounts this week to announce and celebrate the upcoming show, writing: "We're coming to you on Mondays! Get ready for #Supergirl @supergirlofficial'."
