Everyone knows that if Suicide Squad's Harley Quinn only had her way, then she and long-time beau The Joker will be attached to the hip - at all times.

But the new star-studded movie, slated for release in 2016 might be delivering a different premise and see Harley Quinn moving on from the joker and into the arms of the group's leader Deadshot, also known as Floyd Lawyton.

Focus actress Margot Robbie has been chosen to portray the obsessive character, while her co-star Will Smith will be Deadshot. A Twitter user named Jimmy Palmiotti has even shared a picture of Harley being carried by Deadshot, leading fans to question if the two will be developing a relationship in the movie.

This is not something director David Ayer did just to drum up "focus" on Smith and Robbie's amazing onscreen chemistry. In fact, Harley Quinn and Deadpool actually share a steamy albeit short relationship in the comic book narrative, according to MTV.

In the 2011 comic books, Harley Quinn finally decides that she's had enough of the Joker and cozies up to the Squad's leader Deadshot instead. They do hook up, but nothing serious develops. Things even got more complicated for the two when the Joker suddenly goes missing and people are assuming he's already dead.

This is when Harley Quinn's true feelings for him are uncovered, since immediately goes out looking for him.

Robbie earlier revealed that playing Harley Quinn is pretty exciting for her, and when she was asked to sign on and play the character for 10 more years, she was pretty happy to do so. However, that does not mean that she didn't have any qualms about it.

"It's daunting. You don't need to have commitment issues to be frightened by the fact that you might have just signed 10 years of your life away. But with Harley, it's a character I don't think would ever get boring. Ever. So if they did Suicide Squad One, Two, Three, I would be over the moon about it," she said in an interview with AZ Central.

Robbie also wants to change the landscape for female stars in Hollywood and take on more female-driven scripts in the future.

Aside from Robbie's Harley Quinn and Smith's Deadshot, other members of Suicide Squad are Jared Leto as the Joker, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.

Suicide Squad will hit cinemas on August 5, 2016.
