Mr. Incredible and his family has been set to grace the movie screens once more as the red spandex-wearing clan has been confirmed to appear in the new ‘Incredibles 2.’
Brad Bird, who wrote and helmed Pixar’s ‘The Incredibles’ in 2004, told Collider that he will be working fully on the animated superhero sequel. He also revealed that he has already finished writing “a bunch of pages” for the movie’s script.
"I had a lot of ideas for the original ‘Incredibles’ that I didn't get a chance to use, that I like," Bird said. "I have ideas that I wanted to pursue a little bit, and there wasn't enough time in ‘Incredibles.’ There are new ideas I have, and I think there are enough of those together to make an interesting movie."
According to Bird, he is currently placing emphasis on the release of the movie ‘Tomorrowland’ on May 22. After this, he will be able to begin “playing with the ‘Incredibles’ sandbox again.”
The 57-year-old director, who previously worked on ‘Mission Impossible- Ghost Protocol’ and ‘Iron Giant’, also mentioned that he has discussed the possibility of taking over one of the upcoming ‘Star Wars’ movies with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy.
"I was particularly attracted to the idea of picking up [a film in the franchise], and J.J. [Abrams] got very excited about the notion of shaping the next trilogy, and that idea was interesting to me too," Bird shared.
However, he explained that his commitment of working on the ‘The Incredibles’ sequel will come first.
‘The Incredibles’, which featured the voices of Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, Jason Lee and Samuel L. Jackson, pulled in a total gross of $631.4 million at the global box office and earned two Oscar awards, including best animated feature.
Jackson previously dropped hints that his ice-skilled character Frozone can be expected to return for the ‘Incredibles’ sequel.
“Every time I run into Brad he always tells me Frozone is part of what’s going on, so I have to believe that,” he told Digital Spy last year. The actor also believes that Frozone is a pleasing addition to the superhero film and that he looks forward to discovering what the youngest Incredible, Jack-Jack, turned out to be.
In March 2014, it was announced by Disney that an ‘Incredibles’ sequel is in the works.
