In the latest issue of ELLE, cover girl Taylor Swift poses with her guitar and gets interviewed by her friend Tavi Gevinson. Their dialogue revealed several key things about the country-singer-turned-pop-star, such as how she gets relationship inspiration and whether her song ‘Clean’ is really about Harry Styles.

The 25-year-old singer also shared her sentiments on appreciating all her past choices, including the “corkscrew-curly hair and worn cowboy boots and sundresses” that she had put on years ago, even to award shows and special events.

“…I made those choices. I did that. It was part of me growing up. It wasn't some committee going, 'You know what Taylor needs to be this year?”, Swift said.

Swift also expressed her strong desire to cherish such decisions as she believes these were part of her as she was growing up; the music star also emphasized that she does not feel the need to rebel against the idea of herself and the image that she has already created.

“And so with ‘1989’ I feel like we gave the entire metaphorical house I built a complete renovation and it made me love the house even more – but still keeping the foundation of what I've always been,” the singer explained.

In relation to her personal choices, the interview also crossed over to how ‘Clean’ was written and which of Swift’s former boyfriends inspired the creation of the song. The hitmaker associated the term ‘clean’ with having closure, replacing old habits with new ones and hoping that your ex-beau is doing fine himself.

Furthermore, Swift also explained that, during the time when she had written her first few albums, she had not yet experienced being in a relationship. As such, she turned to her pal Lena Dunham’s relationship with Jack Antonoff for insight and inspiration.

With the duo stepping out in public as an official couple, Swift’s romantic time with Styles had been one of her most famous relationships, although only spanning between 2012 and 2013.

Such relationship was rumored to have brought on the song ‘I Knew You Were Trouble’ from Swift’s album ‘Red’; it may also have inspired the ‘Out of the Woods’ track from ‘1989.’

The former country artist also dated singer John Mayer five years ago with her single ‘Dear John’ having been brought on by her ups and downs with the ‘Your Body Is A Wonderland’ crooner.

Swift was also previously linked to other famous celebrities, such as Joe Jonas, Taylor Lautner and Jake Gyllenhaal, all of whom have reportedly inspired some of her popular songs.

Meanwhile, the ‘Shake It Off’ singer’s new music video for ‘Bad Blood’, which features special guest stars Cara Delevingne, Selena Gomez and Zendaya, has been scheduled to be unveiled at the Billboard Music Awards this month.
