Universal Pictures has scheduled romance drama film ‘By The Sea’, starring Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, for an official release date on Nov. 13, 2015 in the U.S. The movie’s international debut is expected to be close to such date.
Directed by Jolie based on her own script, ‘By The Sea’ marks the comeback of the Hollywood power couple in a film together since the romantic comedy action film ‘Mr. & Mrs. Smith’ was released 10 years ago.
To be launched in the midst of the awards season, ‘By The Sea’ also stars Mélanie Laurent, Niels Arestrup, Melvil Poupaud and Richard Bohringer. Pitt takes on the role of an American writer who travels with his wife, played by Jolie, and arrives in a peaceful and scenic seaside resort in France as they figure out how to save their rocky marriage.
With the story set in the 1970s, Jolie’s upcoming drama film is inspired by European cinema and theater during such period.
“This is a story about a relationship derailed by loss, the tenacity of love, and the path to recovery and acceptance,” Jolie said. “It has been a privilege to explore these universal human experiences with such a generous and talented cast and crew.”
While Jolie and Pitt also signed on to the film as producers, the movie’s executive producers include Chris Brigham as well as Holly Goline and Michael Vieira, who both worked on ‘Unbroken.’
‘By The Sea’ is Jolie’s third directorial gig after helming ‘In the Land of Blood and Honey’ and ‘Unbroken.’ Debuting this November, the upcoming relationship drama film will rival the mining rescue drama movie ‘The 33’ from Warner Bros., horror film ‘Rings’ from Paramount, and comedy movie ‘Rock the Kasbah’ starring Bill Murray from Open Road.
Meanwhile, Jolie recently delivered a powerful speech directed towards world leaders for the need to effectively address the crisis in Syria. The award-winning actress was sent as the Special Envoy by the United Nation’s High Commission for Refugees.
Pitt’s wife has already made the headlines for visiting the country 11 times since its crisis began and has also come across a number of refugees during her visits.
"We cannot look at Syria, and the evil that has arisen from the ashes of indecision, and think this is not the lowest point in the world's inability to protect and defend the innocent,” the Hollywood star stated.
