Microsoft, the owner of "Minecraft" developer Mojang, is celebrating the third anniversary of the game's launch on the Xbox 360.
To mark "Minecraft's" third birthday on the console, Microsoft is giving away free content to gamers, Game Spot reported.
"Minecraft" first debuted on Microsoft's last-gen console on May 9, 2012. This version of the game, along with the Xbox One and PlayStation editions of "Minecraft," was developed by 4J Studios.
As part of Microsoft's celebration, gamers can download three skin pack DLCs for the game for free starting now until May 17. The two DLCs, aptly named 1st Birthday Skin Pack and 2nd Birthday Skin Pack, were released during the launch of the Xbox One edition of the game, which was in September of last year.
The 3rd Birthday Skin Pack, offers new content and features a new line-up of character skins based on the original developers of "Minecraft."
All three skin packs can be downloaded by Xbox One and Xbox 360 gamers for free.
"Veteran 360 players might already have the older packs, but this is the first time any of them have been available on Xbox One," Microsoft stated in Mojang's website.
Aside from the game's birthday bundle packs, Microsoft also announced that the Xbox 360 version of the game has already reached 20 million gamers. The huge spike in numbers comes more than a year after Microsoft reported that over 12 million copies of the game have been sold for the console.
According to the company, this marks "Minecraft" as one of its top-selling and most successful games for the Xbox 360.
As for what's in store for the game in the future, Satya Nadella, the CEO of Microsoft, said that the tech giant plans to merge "Minecraft" with its augmented reality technology HoloLens. He said this aspect was the key factor behind Microsoft acquisition of Mojang, according to MCVUK.
