If only time were not an issue, then there would have been more interesting scenes included in the recent film Avengers: Age of Ultron, including a scene with Tom Hiddleston's popular villain Loki.
This is what director Joss Whedon revealed in an interview with Empire Online. He said that each of the Avengers, with the exception of Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye experienced different hallucinations because of the tricks played by the Scarlet Witch.
In his hallucination, Thor played by Chris Hemsworth saw a post-apocalyptic future for Asgard, and Idris Elba played Heimdall in his vision. Loki should have been in it, poking fun at Thor for his clever disguise as their father Odin, but they decided to cut his scene due to time constraints.
"We even had a little reference to the fact that he's taken the throne, which was Tom doing his Anthony Hopkins impression when Thor says, 'Oh, what would father say?' Then Tom does his Hopkins impression, and Thor's like, 'That is uncanny!' It's sort of like his subconscious is telling him that Loki was imitating his father. But he would never make that connection," said Whedon.
The last time audiences saw Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was in the film Thor: The Dark World. Loki faked his own death at the hands of the Dark Elves, and Thor was devastated. Little did Thor realize that Loki managed to make his way back Asgard disguised as Odin and seized the throne.
It was not clear whether or not Loki had already killed Odin or just has him trapped somewhere, but now he has power over all of Asgard as Odin, and it will be up to Thor to figure up the god of mischief's evil schemes and protect Asgard.
Thor and Loki will next be seen in the 2017 film Thor: Ragnarok, where the vision Thor saw in the Water of Sights finally occurs in Asgard. In Avengers: Age of Ultron, the Heimdall in Thor's hallucination told the superhero that all of the Asgardians are headed to hell. It is uncertain who caused their downfall, if it was Thor or Loki, but given the havoc the latter seems to enjoy causing, the blame might fall on him.
Despite his status as a villain, people love seeing Loki tease and torment Thor, and he will also be taking part in the next two Avengers movies - Infinity War Parts 1 and 2.
