Game publisher Activision has confirmed that "Tony Hawk Pro Skater 5" will arrive for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One and Xbox 360 consoles.
According to the company's announcement, the upcoming game will feature the classic game play experience from the early titles of the "Tony Hawk" series, Game Informer reported.
The fifth installment in the franchise is being developed by Robomodo and Disruptive Games. Robomodo is the studio behind Activision's previous spin-off games such as "Tony Hawk: Ride" and "Tony Hawk: Shred."
Activision is planning to release the next-gen versions of "Tony Hawk Pro Skater 5" sometime this year. As for owners of PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, they can expect to get the game shortly after it debuts on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
For its game play, the three studios want to incorporate classic elements from the series. These will be mixed with new additions such as power-ups and the ability of characters to shoot projectiles during specific missions.
The fifth game will also allow gamers to take on missions either online or offline. Accordingly, their achievements and progress can be applied to both online and offline modes of the game. In addition, they can design their own skate parks in the game which can be shared to other players online.
As for the game's characters, the legendary athlete Tony Hawk will return along with new and veteran pro skaters. Joining Hawk in the game are, Andre Reynolds, Lizzie Armanto, Chris Cole, David Gonzalez, Leticia Bufoni, Aaron Homoki, Nyjah Huston, Ishod Wair and his son, Riley Hawk.
Activision's announcement came almost a month after a caterer for the company's previous event leaked a photo suggesting that a "Tony Hawk Pro Skater 5" is in the works, according to Polygon.
The photo, which was posted by chef Joe Youkhan on his Instagram and Facebook accounts in April, showed a projector screen with the title "Tony Hawk 5" on it. At that time, a representative from Activision said that "Tony Hawk 5" was only a working title and could still be changed.
