‘Game of Thrones’ actor Kit Harington opened up about his upcoming movie ‘Spooks: The Greater Good’ in an interview with The Independent. The 28-year-old actor portrays the role of MI5 operative Will in the film version of the British spy series.
“I'm stepping into the shoes of some actors I really admire like Matthew Macfadyen,” Harington said. He also shared that he is always up to the task of taking a role because he somehow felt pressured to do so which, he believes, is a good thing for him.
While he currently portrays Jon Snow in ‘Game of Thrones’, Harington also shared his experiences in shifting gears and joining in the much more “contemporary” fight scenes for ‘Spooks.’
According to The Independent, the actor filmed all his own stunts in the movie, which almost led to an accident. Harington admitted that there was a scene wherein he was supposed to smash his head through a wall but the wall collapsed first.
He also made a comparison between the series on which the upcoming spy thriller movie is based on as well as the widely acclaimed HBO hit.
"I don't think you can ever count on anyone making it alive in ‘Game of Thrones’, as with ‘Spooks’ when it was on air,” Harrington said. “I really don't know. I love Jon, I hope he does, but you can't get too attached."
Interestingly, the ‘Pompeii’ actor also shared that fans often scream “You know nothing, Jon Snow” at him while out on the streets and that he makes a friendly plea for them not to yell at him.
When it comes to his upcoming film, Harington recognizes the fact that the spy thriller movies are likely to overlap with other franchises. For instance, ‘Spooks’ can be deemed as a combination of ‘Mission Impossible’, ‘James Bond’ and ‘Jason Bourne.’
Moreover, he stated that the film version is strongly “grounded in reality” as that of the original ‘Spooks’ series.
The movie follows the story of lead character and counter-terrorism head MI5Harry, portrayed by Peter Firth, and the events that follow after terrorist Adem Qasim, played by Elyes Gabel, escapes from the MI5 custody.
Following Harry’s disappearance, Harington’s character Will Holloway is asked to investigate such events while dealing with an impending attack on London. Directed by Bharat Nalluri, the movie also features Jennifer Ehle and Lara Pulver.
‘Spooks: The Greater Good’ will hit cinemas on May 8 in the U.K.
