Various sources are reporting that the Android 5.0 Lollipop update may arrive soon for Sony's Xperia Z handset.

Although the upgrade's arrival does not have an official release date yet, rumors suggest that it might arrive by the end of this week, International Business Times has learned.

According to the official Xperia blog, Sony Philippines responded to a user's query on Twitter regarding the possible arrival of the Lollipop update on the smartphone. The company said the upgrade will arrive within the next coming days.

"Lollipop update for Xperia Z will start rolling out by next week," Sony Philippines tweeted.

Then, in a follow-up report by the Xperia blog, a screenshot showing the details of the Android Lollipop was leaked.

Based on the screenshot, Xperia Z users can expect to receive the 5.0.2 version of the OS soon. Although the blog noted that the screenshot could be fake, it still coincides with the other rumors regarding the release of the update.

In addition, Sony promised in October of last year that it will seed the Android 5.0 Lollipop to all of its products from the Xperia Z series, GSM Arena reported. These include the Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1S, Xperia Z Ultra Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3V, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact and the first model from the series, the Xperia Z which was released in 2013.

Once the update officially rolls out, users can expect a number of improvements in their handsets. For example, it will improve the responsiveness of the Xperia Z's user interface and will allow them to view and respond to notifications even if their smartphone's screen is locked.

Also, the upgrade comes with a battery-saving feature that can extend the device's battery life by more than an hour and support for Android TV.
