Google has confirmed that the Nexus 9 will receive the Android 5.1 Lollipop update.

Although the upgrade still doesn't have an official launch date, the tech giant noted that users can expect to get the update for their devices soon.

Sascha Pruter, the Android engineering program manager, confirmed the news through his Google+ account. He stated that the update, which will be released OTA, is currently going through various testing phases to get rid of any bugs and glitches.

"I don't know the timeline (because I'm not directly working on the N9) so saying anything would be speculative and not helpful at all," Pruter posted. "The team is battling with some last minute bugs and once these are addressed we will roll the update out as fast as possible."

Although Pruter did not go into detail regarding the bugs, Android Police speculated that it might have something to do with the device's Nvidia 64-bit Denver CPU cores. Since other models have already gotten the update, the Nexus 9 is the only remaining 64-bit Nexus device that has not yet received the latest Lollipop version.

Recently, Android Police reported that the Android 5.1.1 update for the Nexus 10 has already been released. The file, which can be downloaded OTA, has a size of 13.9MB with the build code LMY47V.

In addition, the Nexus 4 and 2012 Nexus 7 Wi-Fi devices have begun receiving the Android 5.1 Lollipop update earlier in April. Since the update is being gradually rolled out, users are advised to check its availability through their device's System Updates menu.

Given the arrival of the Lollipop on various Nexus devices, it seems the Nexus 9 has been left out in terms of its OS upgrades. Tablet News noted that it might be because the device received relatively negative reviews when it first came out in November of last year.
