Taking part in a nerve-wracking competition such as American Idol requires a strong support system for a contestant to hurdle the obstacles that come his or her way. While some contestants have their families and friends as the foundation of their strength and courage to carry on with the competition week after week, Idol hopeful Clark Beckham shares in an interview with Christian Post that the main inspiration in his life right now is God.
Beckham discusses the career path he intends to take following his stint in American Idol. "I want to write songs and sing songs about this world, about people, about this life that God has created through redeemed eyes. That's what I want to do," the Idol contestant revealed. "I think He created music, and I think He likes good music. I don't think we should be separated, I think we should go out into all of the world even musically," he shared.
While a lot of people seem to be inclined to easily put him in a category, Beckham refuses to confine himself in one genre. "A lot of people said, 'you're a Christian and you do music that means you sing Christian contemporary music.' You lead worship," the singer revealed. "But I don't think God wants us to be isolated. I don't think He wants such a distinct wall between church and secular," he admitted.
With the pressure and stress from the competition continuously making everyone appear to be on the verge of cracking, Beckham shared that his faith in having God back him up at every instance never faltered. Hence, this contestant from Nashville remained strong and optimistic throughout the contest.
"No matter how much I mess up if it's on a stage, spiritually, morally, no matter how hard I fall one thing remains. That's His love and His mercy," the artist disclosed. "It transcends the mercy of 'American Idol,' it transcends the mercy of America voting. I might get voted off but no matter what I do for the rest of my life, God will never vote me off. So that's something that I'm grateful for," he added.
In the latest episode of American Idol, it was revealed that Beckham managed to make it to the Top 4 following the elimination of 17-year-old Tyanna Jones. Sharing his relationship with the younger singer, Beckham admitted that her departure from the competition truly devastated him.
"I was really close with Tyanna and her mom," he disclosed, according to Billboard. "I hung out with them, ate with them, prayed with them and sang with them. This hurts the most of any cut for me because we were so close."
