In separate interviews with Asus CEO Jerry Shen, he revealed that future devices from the company's ZenFone series will come with noticeable changes.

Specifically, the company is looking to form new partnerships with other chipset makers as well as changing the name of the next ZenFone devices.

Currently, Intel is the main supplier of chips for Asus's smartphones. However, Shen told Philippines-based tech news site Yugatech that the company has entered into an agreement with Qualcomm to equip selected ZenFone models with the Snapdragon 615 chipsets.

The executed noted that the newly formed deal does not mean that Asus has ended its partnership with Intel. Instead, the company's top-end smartphones will still use Intel processors while its mid-range and high-end devices will be powered by the Snapdragon chips.

Shen explained that Asus decided to go with the Snapdragon 615 SoC due to its broader support capabilities for LTE bands. He did not mention if the company plans to change the device's Android-based operating system.

Aside from the processors of ZenFone smartphones, the CEO also said that the way future devices will be named will also change, NDTV reported. Shen noted that the company plans to mimic how Apple names its smartphones.

Originally, Asus releases its ZenFone devices in generations. For example, the first generation of devices from the company were called the ZenFone 4, 5 and 6. The second generation, on the other hand, was named as the ZenFone 2 but came in three models.

Following Apple's products, such as the iPhone 4, iPhone 5 and iPhone 6, the next smartphone from Asus may simply be called the ZenFone 3 series, although this may still change depending on the company's decision.

It is, however, unclear if Shen will mimic Apple's naming convention for its S-line of smartphones, such as the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5S.
