Shortly after Apple opened the online orders for its 12-inch MacBook with Retina display, the laptop received mixed reviews from those who purchased it. Although some are impressed with their new device, others returned the laptop because they were unhappy with its features.
The reviews of the 12-inch Retina MacBook's early users were posted on the online forum of tech news site MacRumors.
Forum member Newellj posted that after purchasing the laptop, the user returned it due to difficulties with adapting to the MacBook's keyboard design.
It was previously reported that the 12-inch Retina MacBook sports an edge-to-edge keyboard and spans the entire width of the device. Due to this design, the keys are packed much closer to each other as compared to other laptops.
Newllj noted that it might take some users a bit of time to get used to the keyboard's design.
"The keyboard - I expected to like it or at least to be neutral and get used to it," the user posted. "In the end, to my surprise, it turned out to be a lot harder to type accurately on the new keyboard than my Retina MacBook Pro or my Apple Bluetooth keyboard."
Like Newellj, user Audiopablo also returned the newly-purchased laptop. But instead of complaining about the keyboard, the user encountered a problem with the device's USB-C port.
Since the laptop only has one port, users will be forced to purchase a USB-C adapter for the device, which is a bit hard to find according to Audiopablo.
Despite its alleged flaws, some users were still happy about purchasing the 12-inch Retina MacBook. They noted that not only does the device have a beautiful design, it functions smoothly as well.
"Virtually no heat coming from it and silent operation," user Maclee2010 wrote. Runs a long time on a single charge. It looks fantastic and is the most fun notebook I have ever used."
Based on the mixed reviews from the users, it seems the appeal of Apple's latest laptop will depend on users. Those who can easily get USB-C adapters and have no problems coping with a new keyboard design will probably enjoy using the 12-inch Retina MacBook.
