DxOMark, the mobile division of software maker DxO Labs, ranked the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge as having the best smartphone camera in the world.

Out of a hundred points, the video and photo capabilities of Samsung's mobile device scored an average of 86.

DxOMark tested the Galaxy S6 Edge along with other smartphones from various tech companies. The firm based the scores on various categories such as color and autofocus capabilities, exposure, artifacts and noise levels in images, according to Android Authority.

For the Galaxy S6 Edge's video features, the device scored an 84. According to DxOMark, the smartphone did not get a perfect score due to the slight flare that appears when using the camera under bright lighting conditions. In low-light conditions, on the other hand, slight color shadings appear in the images.

For the photo aspect, the Galaxy S6 Edge's camera received a score of 88. Although the camera has good exposure and fast autofocus features, slight noise levels appeared in low-light shots. Color fringing also appeared in the images and the combination of tungsten light and the camera's flash created a yellowish-green white balance.

DxOMark averaged the scores from the two tests and awarded the Galaxy S6 Edge with 86 points.

Trailing behind the smartphone is the Galaxy Note 4, which got an average score of 83. Both of Apple's devices, the iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 6, received 82 points and tied at third place.

The Samsung Galaxy S5, Sony Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z2 came in at fourth place with a similar score of 79 points.

Finishing last in DxOMark's list of smartphones with the best camera is Apple's iPhone 4. With a score of 50 points, the firm noted that the device had "an unacceptable bad jello effect" in its video footages as well as high noise levels in dim lighting conditions.
